Aint no Hood like MOTHERHOOD

To every kind of MOM: “For all you do and all you are, we love you…”

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’” – Proverbs 31:28

Motherhood is not something realized or embraced outside of childbirth, foster care or adoption with a few exceptions. It is a journey like no other. My mom was an amazing woman. I see her everyday in each of my children, some of the meals I prepare, and at times the things I say. Christian Initiated me into the Hood. Your first is a precious induction into caring for a little person, who needs you 24/7. I thought it would be easy. My mom made it look like a piece of cake! Our meals were homemade. I even have one of her recipes "Violet's Pumpkin Cake" published in a Mary Engelbreit cookbook. She sewed mine and my brother's Halloween costumes. She had a green thumb, too. Her expertise was in growing lavender roses. I wondered could I ever achieve real "Mother" status?

Well, since 1992 when I was induction or better yet, induced followed by emergency C-section into motherhood, I have had three more "drive-thru" deliveries. We have four and no more! This quantity made us the "Miller 6 Pack". I did consider having a zipper installed. I am not much of a seamstress, or a green thumb, unless you count silk plants. Ha! But I love to cook! So, I guess one out of three is not bad. Let's just say I have room for improvement. There are so many variations of being a mom these days. Wherever you may find yourself on this spectrum of Motherhood ponder Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good for those who love God, and are called according to His purpose." He has perfect timing! Take time to reflect on what God is doing in you and through you in this season of your journey. Be patient. Take the time to show your mom how much you love and appreciate her. NOW!
