I traveled to Mombasa and Nairobi, Kenya on a mission trip during the Fall of 2007. While I was at the Mennonite Guest House in Nairobi I reclined under a tree on the grass. I gave my attention to some bees who were seeking out nectar. These bees were selective in their search for sweetness. If a particular flower did not meet their standards, they moved on to the next. These workers were not so concerned with the outer appearance of the buds and petals, but were intricately concerned with what was on the inside.
I took a lesson from these bees. We can get so caught up in the outer appearance of a person or object; brands over utility. We never consider that a negative vibe can be based on hurts or struggles within. However, when we seek out the best in the person before us, we draw out the sweetness intended to come forth from their Creator. Each person is created in the image of God to be a reflection of His glory. Let us glean from bees who are patient to draw out the sweet nectar needed to sustain their life, and the future of the hive.
For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV).
